The city as we know it is overly self-absorbed, its citizens unconscious and in need of reflection: on its footprint, its community, its history, its moral imperative. This project sees the emergence of a new ‘embassy’ inside the city, that is populated by ‘things’ as ambassadors, coming from the periphery of this very city, taking their outside views on what it means to live together in a cramped space that is the city. These ambassadors are not shy of taking control of the city as we know it, and their embassy is one that slowly starts to cover the squares, streets, and facades of the city with new cladding and material. Slowly, the citizens realise that this embassy offers them something they forgot about, or never even realised before. With gradual ease, the citizens start to live in the embassy, whilst its structure starts spawning rooms, eventually covering the whole of the city, making the whole city an embassy. Embassy was presented through the reading of a fully drawn children’s book, complete with images and rhyming prose, blurring the lines between architectural drawings, storytelling, and audio-visual language.
Honourable Mention.
